TRAVELLING EUROPE / FLORENCE EDITION

FLORENCE

After our time in Rome it was time to continue or interrail journey, the next stop was Florence, Italy.
The train took around 3 hours so it went by pretty quick.
When arriving in Florence, the beauty of the city immediately hits you, and in my opinion it holds that 'stereotypical Italian' aesthetic. Narrow cobbled streets with independent shops, cafes and traditional Italian restaurants fill the city.

We arrived at our beautiful Airbnb apartment, with high ceilings painted beautifully and the view from our high windows of the Florence Duomo (Florence Cathedral), we knew we was in the perfect spot! Just one minute walk away from Duomo Square (Piazza Del Duomo), a vibrant area which attracts A LOT of tourists.

After dropping our stuff we immediately headed back to the train station to catch the next train to Pisa, to see the Leaning Tower.

After taking more than enough 'tourist' photos we headed back to Florence via train once again. That night we went for dinner at a beautiful restaurant called Move on, situated in the centre of Piazza Del Duomo. The restaurant claimed to specialise in vinyl, so after dinner was over we explored the upstairs of the restaurant that transforms into a vinyl store. Move on serves traditional Italian food and has a relaxed vibe, always busy with good music playing.

Over our next couple of days in Florence we spent most our time exploring the beautiful city, discovering view points, visiting gardens and appreciating the Italian lifestyle.

This photo shows a view over the river bed onto the other side of Florence. Across this river many viewpoints can be found and also the breath-taking Boboli Gardens, which we also visited.

View of Florence from Boboli Gardens viewpoint.

We wandered around Boboli Gardens for a few hours, as there is so much to see and take in, one mistake we made was taking no water, which wasn't the best idea in the 36degree heat.

As the evening drew to a close we bought tickets to climb to the top of the Duomo to get a true view over the top of Florence, as the Duomo is the second tallest building in the city.
After climbing 463 stairs through claustrophobic spiral staircases we finally reached the top, and was greeted with the perfect view.

Florence is an amazing city, it provides a more traditional side to Italy and is full of beautiful Art and Architecture, the colour houses/buildings make the city vibrant and attractive, and there is always something going on at night.

We spent our final evening enjoying our surroundings in another main square called Piazza Della Republicca.. eating dinner, watching street performers and exploring the narrow cobbled streets.
We watched a guitarist perform for an hour or so, this city is amazing and I will definitely be returning, but for a longer period of time!

Thank you for reading, my next travel post will be all about my time in Milan, Italy.
